Algonquin College – Ottawa

Advisory Board Member

I’ve been a technical writer for 15 years, and have had a lot of great experiences in the field. As a result, in 2009, the good folks at Algonquin College kindly invited me to join the Advisory Board for the Technical Writing Program.

Online Course Development and Delivery

In 2011, as Algonquin started moving many of its day programs Online, I was invited to design some of the courses, and to teach them as well. So, in January 2012, you will be able to take a Documentation Planning or Usability course with me through Algonquin’s online learning center.

Documentation and eLearning Consulting

I have a lot of experience with technical documentation, online publishing, and eLearning development. I’ve documented large telecommunications systems, network management software, eLearning software, and I’ve even developed a series of training videos for Canadian judges.

I am now available for consulting work with all topics related to technical communication and eLearning. I’ve worked with high tech and no-tech, and can help your organization too.

It Came From Canada – Audio Blog

When I’m not doing my 9-5, I enjoy podcasting. I used to host The Ruckus, but switched gears in 2012 and started a simple Canadian music audio blog. Check out Canadian music history, one song at a time.

CBC Documentary on Elyse Weinberg

My coproducer Meagan Perry and I created our first ever radio documentary for CBC Radio’s Inside The Music program. This 1-hour doc explained the unique and fascinating story of Montrael-born singer-songwriter Elyse Weinberg. It aired in September 2011, and received great feedback. You can hear it online here:

The Ruckus

From 2008-2011, I produced and hosted The Ruckus, a popular Canadian music podcast on the Rabble Podcast Network. A few of the episodes were great, and some were not-so-great, but by the time I wrapped it up, I had produced 72 episodes, all of which had been downloaded over 500,000 times.

Documentary Proposals

I have several hopeful projects on the go, purely in Proposal/Research form. I hope to pitch these to CBC Radio, or perhaps develop something on my own. Details to come. But here’s a quick list of ideas:

The music of Taylor Mitchell

Taylor Mitchell was an up-and-coming young singer-songwriter with a big voice and massive talent. Her debut album received a lot of critical praise, and by all reports, she was a genuinely kindhearted person. Tragically, she passed away while on tour to support that first album. Many have written about her death, but few have written about her life and music. I’ve been working with Tay’s mom and others to get a documentary made. So far, no success…but hopefully someone will catch on and want to do it.
